A soft and fluffy homemade sandwich loaf made with yeast and requiring only one rise. Perfect for homemade sandwiches, toast, or simply enjoyed with fresh butter and your favourite toppings. It easily beats store-bought sandwich bread \u2013 it toasts beautifully, develops a lovely crisp crust and tastes absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Makes 1 loaf.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ingredients for the soft sandwich bread:<\/span><\/p>\n

• 350 g strong white bread flour<\/li>\n
• 10 g fresh yeast or 5 g instant dry yeast<\/li>\n
• 1 large egg<\/li>\n
• 160 ml milk<\/li>\n
• 8 g salt<\/li>\n
• 12 g sugar<\/li>\n
• 40 g butter, melted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  All ingredients should be at room temperature.<\/p>\n

  Grease a loaf tin measuring approximately 23 x 9 cm at the base (25 x 11 cm at the top) and dust lightly with flour, shaking out any excess.<\/p>\n

  Mix the bread flour with the dry yeast (if using fresh yeast, prepare a starter first). Add the remaining ingredients and knead the dough, adding the melted butter towards the end of kneading. Knead until the dough becomes soft, smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a loaf: gently roll it out, fold the sides towards the centre, then roll it up into a log. Adjust the loaf to fit the length of the tin, gently flattening it if necessary, and place it into the prepared tin. Cover with cling film and leave in a warm place until doubled in size.<\/p>\n

  Bake at 180\u00b0C for approximately 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely on a wire rack.<\/p>\n
