Join in today\u2019s Pancake Day celebrations :). Traditionally, every year, 40 days before Easter, the British (along with several other nationalities) tuck into pancakes, have fun and celebrate. It\u2019s the last chance to indulge before Lent begins! How many pancakes can you manage to eat?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Makes 15 pancakes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ingredients for apple pancakes:<\/span><\/p>\n

• 190 g plain flour<\/li>\n
• \u00bd tsp bicarbonate of soda<\/li>\n
• \u00bd tsp baking powder<\/li>\n
• 50 g caster sugar<\/li>\n
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon<\/li>\n
• 1 large egg<\/li>\n
• 200 ml milk<\/li>\n
• 2 small apples, peeled and coarsely grated<\/li>\n
• 1 tsp butter, melted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  In a large bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and baking powder directly into the bowl. Add the sugar and cinnamon and whisk until combined. Finally, add the grated apples and melted butter and mix briefly. The batter should be fairly thick. If it seems too thick, you can add 1\u20132 tbsp of milk.<\/p>\n

  Heat a frying pan. Cook the pancakes in a dry frying pan, without adding any fat, over a medium heat. Spoon portions of batter into the pan and cook on both sides until golden, about 40 seconds to 1 minute per side. The pancakes are best flipped when plenty of bubbles have appeared on the surface. If they are browning too quickly, reduce the heat.<\/p>\n

  Serve with maple syrup, golden syrup, honey or melted chocolate.<\/p>\n
