A simple yet delicious butter cake with a subtle custard flavor, apples, and cinnamon. Wonderfully soft and tender, perfect with a glass of milk for an afternoon treat :). Makes a large tray bake!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ingredients for cinnamon apple cake:<\/span><\/p>\n

• 200 g butter<\/li>\n
• 3\/4 to 1 cup caster sugar<\/li>\n
• 4 large eggs<\/li>\n
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract<\/li>\n
• 300 g plain cake flour<\/li>\n
• 1.5 packets vanilla custard powder (unsweetened; 60 g total)<\/li>\n
• 2 teaspoons baking powder<\/li>\n
• 250 ml (1 cup) milk<\/li>\n
• 0.7\u20131 kg apples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  Additionally, after baking:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • 30 g melted butter<\/li>\n
  • cinnamon sugar for sprinkling: 1\/4 cup caster sugar mixed with 1.5 teaspoons cinnamon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    All ingredients should be at room temperature. Sift together the flour, custard powder, and baking powder. Set aside. Peel the apples, remove the cores, and cut into thicker slices.<\/p>\n

    In the bowl of a mixer, beat the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla and mix. Add the sifted dry ingredients in 3 batches, alternating with the milk, mixing gently with a whisk or spatula only until combined \u2014 do not overmix.<\/p>\n

    Line a 23 x 32 cm baking pan with baking paper. Spread the batter evenly in the pan and arrange the apple slices on top.<\/p>\n

    Bake at 160\u00b0C for about 50 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and, while still hot, brush the cake with melted butter and sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.<\/p>\n
