Traditional marble bundt cake

A classic vanilla and chocolate marble bundt cake – perfectly sweet, beautifully soft and one of the best I’ve ever baked. Highly recommended.

Ingredients for classic marble bundt cake:

  • 225 g butter
  • 220 g caster sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 300 g plain flour
  • 1¼ teaspoons baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 125 ml milk
  • 120 g dark chocolate, melted and cooled

All ingredients should be at room temperature.

In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt directly into the mixture, add the milk and gently fold until just combined. Divide the batter in half. Stir the melted, slightly cooled chocolate into one portion.

Grease and flour a 29 × 11 cm loaf tin, tapping out any excess flour. Spoon the light and dark batters alternately into the tin. Use a fork to gently swirl the mixtures together to create a marbled effect.

Bake at 160°C for about 70–80 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Remove from the oven and leave to cool.

Enjoy!
