Chocolate-dipped frozen banana pops

Chocolate-dipped frozen banana pops are a wonderful summer treat for children and a fun homemade alternative to shop-bought ice creams. Frozen bananas coated in chocolate and covered with your favourite toppings are simple to make and absolutely delicious. All you need are a few bananas, some chocolate, ice lolly sticks and a selection of toppings. Our favourites are chopped almonds, nuts and desiccated coconut, but you can customise them however you like. Highly recommended!

Makes 6 banana pops.

Ingredients for chocolate-dipped frozen banana pops:

  • 3 bananas
  • 120 g dark chocolate, or your favourite chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower oil
  • assorted toppings of your choice
  • 6 ice lolly sticks

Peel the bananas and cut each one in half. Insert an ice lolly stick into each banana half. Place the bananas on a tray lined with baking parchment and freeze for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in the microwave or over a bain-marie. Stir in the sunflower oil until smooth.

Remove the bananas from the freezer one at a time. Dip each banana into the melted chocolate, coating it evenly, then immediately roll or sprinkle with your chosen toppings. The chocolate will set very quickly on the frozen bananas.

Return the coated banana pops to the tray and freeze for several hours until fully frozen.

Enjoy!
