Chocolate pear pudding

A quick, delicious and melt-in-the-mouth chocolate pudding with pears. Perfect when you’re craving something chocolatey but don’t want to spend more than a few minutes preparing dessert. It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, and you probably already have all the ingredients in your kitchen cupboard. Serve with chocolate sauce – or, for a more indulgent treat, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream :).

Serves 9.

Ingredients for chocolate pear pudding:

  • 2 tins pears in syrup (about 410 g each)
  • 125 g plain flour
  • 25 g cocoa powder
  • 125 g caster sugar
  • 150 g butter + extra for greasing
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

All ingredients should be at room temperature.

Grease a 22 cm square tin with butter.

Drain the pears well and pat dry. Arrange them in the base of the tin, side by side. Place all remaining ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Pour the chocolate batter over the pears and level the surface.

Bake at 200°C for about 30 minutes. Remove from the oven, leave to cool for 5–10 minutes, then cut into 9 portions. Serve with chocolate sauce.

Ingredients for chocolate sauce (ganache):

  • 50 ml double cream
  • 50 g dark chocolate, chopped or chocolate chips

Heat the cream in a small saucepan, then remove from the heat. Add the chocolate and leave for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Leave to thicken slightly before serving.

Enjoy!
